abandoned snake sequence

__________

Notes:

1. Made on 4th April, 2021
2. The snake was going to hiss out its tongue and lick the camera lens but I couldn’t work out how to make it stiff enough to reach upward between frames
3. So abandoned it mid sequence
4. Poor little snake
5. I’d messed up the lighting so you can’t see its cheeky little face anyway
6. Which would have ruined everything
7. If I hadn’t already ruined everything

Thank you!

And The Stars Tumbled Past Like Autumn Leaves

__________

Notes:

1. Made on March 1st, 2021
2. This was going to be part of an ambitious attempt to remake The Solar System And Almost Everything In It as a cartoon
3. With the spaceship travelling at 1AU a minute
4. Everything stretching on for an hour or more
5. While Toby Vok clanged and banged and occasionally screamed in the background
6. To spectacular effect
7. But unfortunately tedious and dispiriting technical problems have led me to abandon the idea
8. After four hours of work yielded that entire two seconds of animation above
9. So now I’m going to go and do something else
10. And stop whinging down here in the notes

A Trillion Tiny Planets

This is another storyboard for an unsuccessfully pitched cartoon, this time to Frederator. This story is also about a lone girl on a spaceship, but isn’t quite so depressing as “We would set our own hearts on fire for a mere moment of warmth”.

__________

Notes:

1. Written in December 2014
2. I’ve always quite liked this
3. And wish I could make it
4. Somehow
5. But I’m not sure my meagre skills would be able to do it justice

“We would set our own hearts on fire for a mere moment of warmth”

This is a script/storyboard (plus some other bits) for a cartoon that I pitched unsuccessfully to the BFi for their Animation 2018 project (the winners of which are being shown on BBC Four this Sunday, and which should be brilliant).

If it had actually been made, it would have had sets built by Dan Rawlings and sound design by Chriddof, with slightly inept claymation (with wooden heads) animation by me (which was presumably the reason it wasn’t commissioned).

Also the other reason it probably wasn’t commissioned is because it is absolutely the most depressing thing I’ve ever written.

[Some of the models for this were later re-used in They Locked Me In This Room And Told Me To Confess, which was another unsuccessful submission for a thing (the Observer Short Comic Competition thing they run each year). Maybe these poor plasticine abominations are cursed in some way.]

[If you can’t read the words you can click on the image to enlarge it. If you still can’t read the writing, it is because it is illegible to all but me. I am sorry.]
