Tales From The Town #178: Spaceships Built From Steam

“Spaceship.”

“And that one?”

“Spaceship.”

“What about that one?”

“Spaceship.”

“Daniel, will you stop saying they all look like spaceships when not one of them looks even anything at all like a spaceship EVEN SLIGHTLY!”

“They don’t just look like spaceships, Claire. They ARE spaceships.”

“No they’re not. They’re clouds!”

“They’re lighter than air!”

“Yeah?”

“And they move!”

“So?

“They can disappear!”

“And?”

“And they’re full of space!”

Claire remained unconvinced by her brother’s arguments on the matter.

Notes:

1. Written on June the something or other I can’t remember exactly.
2. The title’s stolen/derived from this excellent book by Lisa Tuttle.

Patreon subscribers get not just early access to content and also the occasional gift, but also my eternal gratitude. Which I'm not sure is very useful, but is certainly very real.

(Ko-fi contributors probably only get the gratitude I'm afraid, but please get in touch if you want more).

Thank you!

The Spaceship Is A Metaphor

__________

Notes:

1. Written in October sometime, but not actually drawn until yesterday (30th November, 2021)
2. This worked better in my head
3. Mainly because in my head I didn’t smear all the paint everywhere like a buffoon

The Earth A Mere Bubble Floating In The Silent Sky

__________

Notes:

1. Made on March 5th, 2021
2. Between 3:17pm and 3:50pm
3. For all 100 frames
4. (And then another hour near enough to put it together and upload it to the internet)
5. But still pretty quick, I suppose
6. Here it also is on youtube
7. For completeness sake

A Dream Of Company (places in space #30)

__________

Notes:

1. Written on June 20th, 2019
2. This is the final Places In Space story
3. At least for now
4. Due to me reaching the end of my sketchpad
5. And also running out of ideas
6. And there’s only so long you can claim repetition is a thematic concern of the piece
7. Before it just becomes repetitious
8. And boring
9. All by itself
10. Regardless of your explanations
