Tales From The Town #202: Nostalgia

“Do you remember…?” Daniel said.

“NO!” said Claire.

“But he hasn’t even asked you anything yet, Claire,” said Tina.

“I don’t care,” said Claire. “I am not thinking about the past. The past is BORING!” She picked something up off the ground and then threw it back onto the ground to prove her point. “And it’s stupid.”

“You’re stupid,” said Ethel. “You just threw a boiled egg on the ground.”

“I HATE BOILED EGGS!” said Claire. “And I hate picnics!” Claire stormed off towards the swing and then got on the swing and swung on the swing in as furious a fashion as it was possible for a girl to swing. “AND I HATE ANTS!”

“I think she does remember,” said Daniel.

“I think we all remember,” Agnes sighed, unable to forget.

Tales from The Town #143: May Days

Unexpected sunshine after several months of rain. Bird song and insect buzz. Ice cream van jingle burrowing deep within your brain. If you look closely you can see the grass growing beneath your feet almost in real time.

New month, new life. The perfect time to reappear.

Tales From The Town #54: Pollen Days

Even in the sealed confinement of her room, Tina sneezed and sneezed. She could not stop.

It hardly seemed fair. All these tears and she wasn’t even sad. At least the sound of the others playing on the swing outside helped her write some of the most furious poetry in her collection.

Tales From The Town #51: Puddles

Sudden sun for a whole weekend marks the unexpected end of this long unceasing winter, and by Monday morning, all that remains of this entire season’s crop of snow are puddles dotted here and there on the street and in the road. And when the children walk to school, one by one, beneath the gleeful stamping of their boots, they too will soon be gone.
