It used to be

It used to be you could find an audience on the internet
by making stuff for people to look at
And if they liked it, then maybe
they’d sometimes come back for more

Now no one looks at anything on the internet at all
and they certainly don’t like it

And the only things that come back for more
are the insatiable robots we’ve built
that’ll eat it all up
eat everything all up
again and again and again

So they can vomit it back up later
half misremembered and all incoherent
to save us the pain of ever having to see
what was originally said
in its own time
and place

If you like the things you've read here please consider subscribing to my patreon or my ko-fi.

Patreon subscribers get not just early access to content and also the occasional gift, but also my eternal gratitude. Which I'm not sure is very useful, but is certainly very real.

(Ko-fi contributors probably only get the gratitude I'm afraid, but please get in touch if you want more).

Thank you!

When the internet was small
it seemed vast beyond measure
Now it’s vast beyond measure
it’s tiny

By Design

On the internet the quiet go unseen

To cease to speak
is to cease to be

Forgotten by design

loop

I’m using the internet
because I can’t sleep
and I can’t sleep
because I’m using the internet

caught
in a refresh cycle
updating
every
page
in the hope that something has changed
but nothing has

and when something is looked at this closely
this constantly
the illusion is created
that nothing ever does
nor ever will

slowly limited horizons

i used to go to hundreds
of sites
across what felt like the limitless expanse
of the world

now i look at twitter
half heartedly
for twelve hours a day
