Indifference

“It’s the indifference that hurts the most,” she said. “I’d rather contempt than this.”

“I know right,” said her brother, with a polite nod of agreement. “Isn’t it awful?”

He excused himself and left the room. When he returned, he was incredibly relieved to find she had gone.
