Introduction

It is only on the islands of the world that distinct cultures still exist.

The moral necessity of our policy of preservation overrides all other concerns, and for this reason the seclusion of the islands is maintained. Though their beliefs often seem primitive in comparison to ours, they still hold their worth in allowing us glimpses of how it was we may once have lived.

Of course, we cannot allow any islanders to return to their homes after we encounter them, but those that we rescue from the sea often tell us much about the lands that they have left behind.

It is from a combination of these gathered accounts and my own observations that I have assembled this collection.
