Now this morning I told my Lord of my dream of the night before. And I said to him, “My dear Lord, last night as you slept, I dreamt. And this dream took the form of a conversation between old friends. And together we recounted events from our distant pasts, dancing politely around secrets too intimate to share. Yet every word that slipped from my lips revealed some hidden truth.”

The Hundred And Ninth Dream Of The Waiting Prince
And this morning I told my Lord of my most recent dream. And to him I said, “My dear Lord, last night as you slept, I dreamt. And in this dream, on the occasion of the First Sun of the Second Moon, I stepped into the River Of Glass, with my sisters by my side. And as the third hour faded away, and the fourth, and the fifth, so too did my sisters, until eventually I was all alone. And as the waters rose, I stood my ground, until on the surface the only evidence of my presence was the swirling patterns of my unbound hair as it was pulled along by the shifting currents. And soon even my hair was gone, and the ripples left in memory, until the waters were like some lake of ice beneath the silver sun, the golden moon, the obsidian sky, the bone white glints of distant stars.”
The Hundred And Eighth Dream Of The Waiting Prince
Now this morning I told my Lord of my most recent dream. And I said to him, “Last night as you slept, I dreamt. And in this dream, you crossed the Jagged Bridge from Palace to Palace, and no matter who stepped forth to greet you, you passed on by as though they were little more than mist.”
The Hundred And Seventh Dream Of The Waiting Prince
Now to my Lord I told my dream of the night before. And I said to him, “My dear Lord, last night as you slept, I dreamt. And in this dream, you said to me, “My dear Mother, last night as I slept, I dreamt. And in this dream, my daughter said to me, “My dear Father, last night as I slept, I dreamt, And in this dream, my Grandmother said to me, “My dear granddaughter, last night as I slept, I dreamt. And in this dream, no one spoke to me, nor I to anyone else. For by then this thread connecting us was so thin, it was nothing more than the reflections of light cast upon the ceiling by the ripples beneath the surface of an empty pool.”
The Hundred And Sixth Dream Of The Waiting Prince
Now today I told my Lord of my dream of the night before. And I said to him, “My dear Lord, last night as you slept, I dreamt. And in this dream, I took the form of a fish, and was caught by the fishing folk above me. And I took the form of a bird, and was shot by the archers below me. And I took the form of a deer, and was hunted by the gamekeepers behind me. And I took the form of a woman, and was trapped from the moment I was born by the world all around.”
The Hundred And Fifth Dream Of The Waiting Prince
And this morning I spoke to my Lord of my dream of the night before. And I said to him, “My dear Lord, last night as you slept, I dreamt. And in this dream the sons of my many selves and my many sisters instructed me on how best to serve our family. And in this dream I respected their wishes. And in this dream I acted upon their demands. And in this dream I long ago lost my dignity. And in this dream I lived through more lifetimes than a mother should know. And in this dream I wept. And from this dream I could not wake.”
The Hundred And Fourth Dream Of The Waiting Prince
Now I spoke this morning to my Lord of my dream of the night before. And I said to him, “My dear Lord, last night as you slept, I dreamt. And in this dream I tried my best to ignore those more ignorant than myself. But each time they spoke, I was forced to listen, for the customs of these halls insist upon politeness. And so into me their rot did slowly seep.”
The Hundred And Third Dream Of The Waiting Prince
This morning I told my Lord of my most recent dream. And I said to him, “My dear Lord, last night as you slept, I dreamt. And in this dream I remembered conversations from our past, and planned those for our future. Yet of these conversations now, not even to myself did you listen.”
The Hundred And Second Dream Of The Waiting Prince
And this morning to my Lord I spoke of last night’s dream. And to him I said, “My dear Lord, last night as you slept, I dreamt. And in this dream, I listened to the Silenced Few, and the Silenced Many, and the Silenced Self. And the Silenced Few sang songs as beautiful as any birds, in languages unknown to me and my many scribes. And the Silenced Many staged plays as moving as any by the poets, in genres unknown to me and my many tutors. And the Silenced Self showed me moves as deft as any dancers, in dimensions unknown to me and my many mathematicians. Yet when I tried to follow their instructions, I found I no longer had the skills to perform them.”
The Hundred And First Dream Of The Waiting Prince
This morning I told my Lord of my most recent dream. And to him I said, “My dear Lord, last night as you slept, I dreamt. And in this dream, you slept but could not dream, while I dreamt but could not sleep.”
