This morning my Lord recounted to me his dream of the night before. And he said to me, “My dear scribe, last night as I slept, I dreamt. And in this dream the walls of the Palace bowed and bent, and the floors and the ceilings ran like glue, and the air around me turned to glass, and with every breath I took I tried to scream, yet no scream would come, for I had by then been turned to stone.”

This morning my Lord told me of his dream of the night before. And he said to me, “My dear scribe, last night as I slept, I dreamt. And I stood before the Unopened Gate, and checked each of the hundred and one locks, as is my duty, to ensure that it was firmly closed. And on the completion of my task, I bowed my head, and turned, and walked away. And behind me I heard the creak of its hinges.”

And in this dream, the vines crept up the walls of the High Palace, and through the windows of the High Palace, and along the corridors of the High Palace, and around the legs of the servants of the High Palace, and around the arms of the scribe of the High Palace, and around the throat of the prince of the High Palace, and around the spires of the High Palace, and across the roof of the High Palace, and up and up, towards the edges of the atmosphere of the earth, towards the the moons, towards the stars. To, and above, and beyond.”

Now this morning my Lord spoke to me of his dream of the night before. And he said to me, “My dear scribe, last night as I slept, I dreamt. And in this dream, I lay upon a bed of ice. And there were marks upon the skin of my feet, where the laces of my shoes had been tied too tight. And there were marks upon the skin of my legs, where the garters of my socks had been tied too tight. And there were marks upon the skin of my hips, where the belt I wore had been tied too tight. And there were marks around my wrists, where the ropes of my bonds had been tied too tight. And there were marks around my mouth, where the gag of my silence had been tied too tight. And there were marks around my eyes, where the blindfold had been tied too tight. And there was a wound around my scalp, where the crown had been wrenched from my skull. And there was a line around my neck, where the garrotte had been pulled tight. And there was a hole in my chest, where your betrayal had pierced my heart.”
The Sixty Fifth Dream Of The Waiting Prince
Now my Lord spoke to me of his dream of the night before. And he said to me, “My dear scribe, last night as I slept, I dreamt. And I saw above me the curtains billowing in the morning breeze. And I saw above me the dust illuminated in shafts of light. And I saw above me the shadows on the ceiling. And I felt upon my skin the caress of my silken sheets. And I felt upon my skin the beading of sweat. And I felt upon my skin the memory of another’s touch. And I heard outside the rustling of the leaves on the trees. And I heard outside the songs of the waiting birds. And I heard outside the sounds of voices. And I heard outside the echoes of gunfire. And I heard outside the digging of a grave. And I heard outside the silence of the rest of the day.”
The Sixty Fourth Dream Of The Waiting Prince
Now this morning my Lord spoke to me of his dream of the night before. And he said solemnly to me, “My dear scribe, last night as I slept, I dreamt. And in this dream I stood before an unmarked grave, and placed upon it a single flower. And the wind rose up, and scattered the petals away. And in this dream I stood before an unclaimed tomb, and placed at its door a single flower. And a hand reached out, and snatched the petals away. And in this dream I stood before the Graves Of The Forgotten Emperors, and placed upon its steps a single flower. And blood flowed from the summit, and washed the petals away. And in this dream I stood before the people of my Empire, and placed at their feet a single flower. And the people turned away and fled.”

And soon the sea was as solid as stone, yet still the ashes poured forth from the urn. And I knew that soon beneath them I would drown.”

All to be free.”

And as I remembered, I tried to forget. And as I tried to forget, I slept. And as I slept, I dreamt. And as I dreamt, I wept. And as I wept, I remembered. And as I remembered, I tried to forget. And as I tried to forget, I slept. And as I slept, I dreamt.”
