Now my Lord spoke to me of his dream of the night before. And he said to me, “My dear scribe, last night as I slept, I dreamt. And I saw above me the curtains billowing in the morning breeze. And I saw above me the dust illuminated in shafts of light. And I saw above me the shadows on the ceiling. And I felt upon my skin the caress of my silken sheets. And I felt upon my skin the beading of sweat. And I felt upon my skin the memory of another’s touch. And I heard outside the rustling of the leaves on the trees. And I heard outside the songs of the waiting birds. And I heard outside the sounds of voices. And I heard outside the echoes of gunfire. And I heard outside the digging of a grave. And I heard outside the silence of the rest of the day.”
