Agnes:<\/strong> What’s wrong? Are you okay in there, Claire?<\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> Of course I’m okay, Mum!<\/p>\n

Agnes:<\/strong> Oh. Well what are you making all that dreadful noise for then?<\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> It’s fun!<\/p>\n

*****<\/p>\n

“Scraaaaaaaaaaaaaeeeeeeeeeee!”<\/em><\/p>\n

Scene 2: Kitchen\/Dining Room<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Scraaaaaaaaaaaaaeeeeeeeeeee!”<\/em><\/p>\n

******<\/p>\n

Tina:<\/strong> Mum! What’s that noise?!<\/p>\n

Ethel:<\/strong> Someone’s screaming, Mum!<\/p>\n

Agnes:<\/strong> Oh don’t worry about that. It’s just Claire.<\/p>\n

Daniel: <\/strong>But Claire’s right there, Mum.<\/p>\n

The camera turns to show Claire at the kitchen table, eating some cornflakes.<\/em><\/p>\n

Agnes:<\/strong> Oh…<\/p>\n

******<\/p>\n

“Scraaaaaaaaaaeeee!”<\/em><\/p>\n

Scene 3: Kitchen\/Dining Room (part 2)<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Scraaaaaaaaaaaaaeeeeeeeeeee!”<\/em><\/p>\n

******<\/p>\n

Daniel:<\/strong> I’m scared Mum!<\/p>\n

Ethel:<\/strong> So am I<\/p>\n

Tina:<\/strong> And me, Mum!<\/p>\n

Agnes:<\/strong> We’re all scared, Tina.<\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> I’m not scared, Mum! I’m…. DEAD!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Claire removes her head and puts it on the table next to her bowl of cornflakes, before awkwardly spooning more mouthfuls into her somehow still working gob.<\/em><\/p>\n

Agnes:<\/strong> Okay, we’re all scared except for Claire.<\/p>\n

******<\/p>\n

“Scraaaaaaaaaaeeee!”<\/em><\/p>\n

Scene 4: Kitchen\/Dining Room<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Scraaaaaaaaaaaaaeeeeeeeeeee!”<\/em><\/p>\n

Tina:<\/strong> It’s getting closer!<\/p>\n

Daniel:<\/strong> It’s going to eat us!<\/p>\n

Agnes:<\/strong> It is not going to eat us, Daniel.<\/p>\n

Ethel:<\/strong> It might!<\/p>\n

Daniel:<\/strong> It will!<\/p>\n

Agnes:<\/strong> It won’t!<\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> Yeah, what if it drinks<\/em> us!<\/p>\n

Agnes:<\/strong> Claire! Stop that!<\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> But what if it does!<\/p>\n

Agnes:<\/strong> And put your head back on. It’s disconcerting like this.<\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> But Mum….<\/p>\n

******<\/p>\n

“Scraaaaaaaaaaaaaeeeeeeeeeee!”<\/em><\/p>\n

Scene 5: Kitchen\/Dining Room<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Scraaaaaaaaaaaaaeeeeeeeeeee!”<\/em><\/p>\n

Ethel:<\/strong> If Claire’s not scared, we should send HER out to see what’s making that noise.<\/p>\n

Tina:<\/strong> Especially as she’s already dead.<\/p>\n

Claire: <\/strong>I’m not going anywhere. I haven’t even finished my cornflakes yet.<\/p>\n

Daniel:<\/strong> And she’s not dead. She’s un<\/em>dead.<\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> That just means the same as dead, Daniel. And I am still not going out there.<\/p>\n

Ethel:<\/strong> Claire’s even more scared than we are.<\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> Am not!<\/p>\n

Ethel:<\/strong> Am ARE!!<\/p>\n

Agnes:<\/strong> Look, there’s no need to argue. Claire’s not scared.<\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> At all.<\/p>\n

Agnes:<\/strong> And no one’s going to go and see what’s making that noise.<\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> EVER!<\/p>\n

Ethel:<\/strong> See? Claire’s totally scared!<\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> I am not! There’s no such thing as ghosts so there’s no need to go out there, that’s all. And I’m eating my cornflakes so there.<\/p>\n

Agnes:<\/strong> And you’re all going to finish your cornflakes, too.<\/p>\n

Ethel:<\/strong> But Mum….!<\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> Yeah, Ethel, eat up. These might be the last cornflakes you ever eat.<\/p>\n

Ethel\/Tina\/Daniel\/Agnes:<\/strong> Shut up, Claire.<\/p>\n

******<\/p>\n

“Scraaaaaaaaaaaaaeeeeeeeeeee!”<\/em><\/p>\n

Scene 6: Kitchen\/Dining Room<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Scraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaae!”<\/em><\/p>\n

Tina:<\/strong> It’s so loud!<\/p>\n

Ethel:<\/strong> It’s so horrifying!<\/p>\n

Daniel:<\/strong> It sounds just like Claire!<\/p>\n

Agnes: <\/strong>But Claire’s there.<\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> I am, aren’t I?<\/p>\n

Agnes:<\/strong> So it can’t be Claire<\/p>\n

Daniel:<\/strong> Unless there’s two Claires!<\/p>\n

Ethel:<\/strong> Or four!<\/p>\n

Tina:<\/strong> Or even more!<\/p>\n

“Scraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaae!”<\/p>\n

Scene 7: The Hallway Outside Claire’s Bedroom<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Scraaaaaaaaa-”<\/p>\n

Agnes (emerging from the bedroom holding an old fashioned looking tape player from the 1980s):<\/strong> Don’t worry everyone. It wasn’t more Claires. It was just a recording<\/em> of Claire.<\/p>\n

Tina\/Daniel\/Ethel:<\/strong> CLAIRE!<\/em><\/p>\n

Claire:<\/strong> I can’t believe you idiots thought it was a ghost! You’re all stupid and I hate you!<\/p>\n

Claire stomps off into her bedroom, slamming the door behind her<\/strong><\/p>\n

Agnes:<\/strong> Well, at least that’s all over with. (pause) Wait, why’s she the one annoyed by all this?<\/p>\n

Tina:<\/strong> And how did she do that thing with her head?<\/p>\n

Daniel:<\/strong> And why was she eating cornflakes? On Halloween?<\/em><\/p>\n

Ethel (pointing):<\/strong> And what’s that Claire doing scuttling along the ceiling like some sort of crab?<\/p>\n

The camera pans up. Everything is a torment of scuttling movement<\/em><\/p>\n

SCRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAE!<\/strong><\/p>\n
