and the numbers on a clock radio
\nglowing red
\nin the early morning gloom<\/p>\n
But what it dreamt of most often
\nwhat it dreamt of right now
\nwas of its own magnificence<\/p>\n
huge and looming
\non the side of some infinite tower
\nhigh above the town<\/p>\n
ticking
\ntocking
\nrelentlessly
\nmeasuring out the lives of everyone below
\nregulating the beats of their hearts
\nuntil they matched the timing
\nof its own<\/p>\n
