Claire looked down at the floor, stamped her feet, and howled.<\/p>\n

“This is all the lodger’s fault!”<\/p>\n

“Oh come on, Claire,” Agnes said. “How is any of this the lodger’s fault?”<\/p>\n

“If it wasn’t for the lodger,” Claire explained. “We wouldn’t even be here!”<\/p>\n

“What? He’s at work, Claire? He doesn’t even know where we are?”<\/p>\n

“He broke the swing!”<\/p>\n

“But I fixed the swing.”<\/p>\n

“It’s not the same. What if it breaks again? I don’t trust it.”<\/p>\n

“But what’s any of this got to do with you dropping your ice cream?”<\/p>\n

“Right in the dog’s muck!”<\/p>\n

“Daniel! Don’t rub it in.”<\/p>\n

“Because if he hadn’t broken the swing we wouldn’t have come to the park and you wouldn’t have bought us ice creams and I wouldn’t have seen Carolina and she wouldn’t have waved at me and I wouldn’t have waved back and my ice cream wouldn’t have gone flying!”<\/p>\n

“Into all the dog’s muck!”<\/p>\n

“Daniel!<\/em>”<\/p>\n

“I hate the lodger so much!”<\/p>\n

2. Monetary Complaints<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I can’t believe you spent a thousand pounds on that!<\/em>”<\/p>\n

“I didn’t!”<\/p>\n

“That’s what the invoice says!”<\/p>\n

“But I didn’t buy it!”<\/p>\n

“Well someone did, Oya. And it wasn’t me.”<\/p>\n

“They must have hacked my credit card. Again.”<\/p>\n

“Why would anyone hack your credit card just to spend a thousand pounds on that?<\/em>”<\/p>\n

“I don’t know, Anna.”<\/p>\n

“And then send it to you?”<\/p>\n

“I don’t know!”<\/p>\n

“At your own house? Under your own name?”<\/p>\n

“I don’t know!<\/em>”<\/p>\n

“What is it, anyway?”<\/p>\n

“I don’t know…”<\/p>\n

“Why’s it moving like that?”<\/p>\n

“I don’t know.<\/em>”<\/p>\n

“Do you think it’s… alive?<\/em>”<\/p>\n

3. Endless Complaints<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Mum! Claire’s cheating!”
\n“Mum! Tina’s telling tales on me!”

\n“Mum! Ethel’s telling tales on me!”

Of all the Saturdays, it was the Saturdays when it was raining that Agnes hated beyond all the others.<\/p>\n
