He smiles at you and opens it up. Just a crack. Enough for you to see\u2026 what? Something. There\u2019s definitely something in there. But what? What is it? What does he have in there? You step forward to take a closer look, but he snaps the lid back into place and leaves you always wanting more.<\/p>\n

The Boy With The Box (Part 2)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cBut I didn\u2019t get the chance to see it properly!\u201d Ethel said. \u201cShow me again!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo,\u201d said Ted. \u201cIt\u2019s Claire\u2019s turn now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want a turn,\u201d said Claire. \u201cIt\u2019s just a spider.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt didn\u2019t look like a spider,\u201d Ethel said. \u201cIt was so dark it could have been anything<\/em>!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s always a spider,\u201d Claire said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat if it\u2019s not, though?\u201d Tina said. \u201cWhat if it\u2019s something new and amazing?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLike a newt!\u201d Daniel said. \u201cOr a worm<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSpiders are<\/em> amazing,\u201d Ted blurted out. \u201cReally amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSee! I told you it was a spider,\u201d Claire said. \u201cCome on, let\u2019s go. I can\u2019t believe it\u2019s snowing and all you three want to do is look in a box!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, well, okay, yeah,\u201d said Ethel, her eyes still longingly fixed on the box. \u201cI suppose I don\u2019t need<\/em> another look. Sorry, Ted, but I\u2019ve seen your spider before.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt might not<\/em> be a spider,\u201d Ted said desperately. \u201cIt might be something entirely<\/em> different.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLike a newt<\/em>!\u201d said Daniel. \u201cOr a worm<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ted smiled at Ethel and opened up the lid. Just a crack. Enough for a glimpse of that strangely alluring darkness, all those hints of something secret inside.<\/p>\n

Ethel couldn\u2019t resist. She tried but she couldn\u2019t. She stepped forward, bent down, peered in, gasped. It wasn’t a spider in there at all.<\/p>\n
