\u201cThey were in an incubator!\u201d The way Ethel said this she made it sound like four separate words rather than one whole one – \u2018ink you bay tor\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were three chicks!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd two ducks!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd an alligator!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd a shark!”<\/p>\n

\u201cThere wasn’t a shark?!\u201d Agnes said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt drowned!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut in the air!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was so sad!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t that sad,\u201d said Claire.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt really was.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was the saddest thing ever.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt does sound quite sad.\u201d,\u201d Agnes said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t sad at all,\u201d Claire insisted.<\/p>\n

She looked out the window at the graves in the garden. She couldn\u2019t understand why she wanted to cry.<\/p>\n
