\n7. I started writing it while reading The Milk Of Dreams<\/a> by Leonora Carrington<\/a><\/em>
\n8. For the 99th time<\/em>
\n9. You should read it too it’s wonderful<\/em>
\n10. As are all her things.<\/em>
\n11. It seeped in most directly here with Ted<\/em>
\n12. And his lack of a crocodile<\/em>
\n13. Which is based on Humbert The Beautiful from (The Milk Of Dreams)<\/em>
\n14. And his actual crocodile<\/em>
\n15. Which actually bites people<\/em>
\n16. Presumably.<\/em>
\n17. I also read We Have Always Lived In The Castle<\/a> by Shirley Jackson last week<\/em>
\n18. Which I’d never read before.<\/em>
\n19. It was brilliant in almost every way.<\/em>
\n20. The house this is set in is not that house<\/em>
\n21. But it might be related<\/em>
\n22. In some way<\/em>
\n23. And so might some of the people that live there<\/em>
\n24. But which ones I would not like to say.<\/em>
\n25. Agnes wasn’t based on Agnes Varda<\/em>
\n26. But was named after her<\/em>
\n27. Purely because if I was going to have a matriarch for this family, surely she would have been the one to keep things in check<\/em>
\n28. With kindness and wisdom<\/em>
\n29. And endless inquisitive genius.<\/em>
\n30. Also Agnes and Antoine were married once<\/em>
\n31. And Ethel, Claire, Tina and Daniel are their children<\/em>
\n32. Or so I intended when I began<\/em>
\n33. Who knows now<\/em>
\n34. They have their own lives to live<\/em>
\n35. It’s not for me to decide<\/em>
\n36. They are free to make our own choices<\/em>
\n37. As are we all.<\/em>
\n38. David is a self portrait<\/em>
\n39. More flattering than I deserve.<\/em>
\n40. Simon is an interloper<\/em>
\n41. From the aforementioned Book Of Beasts<\/em>
\n42. You can ignore him if you like.<\/em>
\n43. I think Oya and Yulia work in the shop<\/em>
\n44. While Anna spends her days reading beneath her parasol<\/em>
\n45. In the ruins of the abbey<\/em>
\n46. Or by the entrance to the cave<\/em>
\n47. Or wherever else she pleases really.<\/em>
\n48. She is who I want to be.<\/em>
\n49. The spider dreams of a million children<\/a><\/em>
\n50. The cat dreams of pleasure<\/em>
\n51. No one dares say out loud what it is the crows are dreaming of<\/em>
\n52. But we know it in our hearts.<\/em>
\n53. We shall speak no more of the mayor.<\/em>
\n54. I cannot draw cafes<\/em>
\n55. Or shops<\/em>
\n56. Or caves evidently<\/em>
\n57. Or very much at all, I’m afraid<\/em>
\n58. Especially not people<\/em>
\n59. Which is a bit of a hindrance<\/em>
\n60. In a book about people<\/em>
\n61. But here we are.<\/em>
\n62. Weirdly, I wrote this burned out gallery one the day before I started reading The Goldfinch<\/a> by Donna Tartt<\/em>
\n63. Which starts with a gallery being blown up<\/em>
\n64. Or slightly exploded at least.<\/em>
\n65. I assume some of it burnt down.<\/em>

\n71. The phrase “There is nothing as frightening as the passing of time” is taken from ‘There Is Nothing More Frightening Than the Passing of Time’ by The Supermen Revenge Squad<\/a><\/em>

\n73. Anyway, the final track of that album is almost perfect<\/em>
\n74. I have listened to that song 103 times in the last two years apparently<\/em>

\n77. (Which I was thinking of when I made the Violent Penguin comic strip<\/a>, a couple of years ago)<\/em>

\n79. The moon and the sun have joined us too, from that book of beasts.<\/em>
\n80. But they exist everywhere<\/em>
\n81. And cannot be contained<\/em>
\n82. Just like the sky itself.<\/em>
\n83. (I know this doesn’t really extend to the level of theft, but I think I took that phrase from this song<\/a>)<\/em>
