Percy Smith (whose incredible <em>To Demonstrate How Spiders Fly<\/em> I watched and reviewed <a href=\"https:\/\/accumulationofthings.com\/100\/2019\/12\/05\/to-demonstrate-how-spiders-fly-1909\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">previously<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/accumulationofthings.com\/100\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/fly001s.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"604\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/accumulationofthings.com\/100\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/fly001s.png 800w, https:\/\/accumulationofthings.com\/100\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/fly001s-300x227.png 300w, https:\/\/accumulationofthings.com\/100\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/fly001s-768x580.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>The Acrobatic Fly<\/em> was a part of an ongoing series of similarly themed short films, in which F. Percy Smith decided to use stop motion to make it look like insects were engaged in a series of pointless acrobatic displays. <\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not entirely sure why, but I found this fairly disconcerting (presumably because of the use of real flies nailed to a pole).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/accumulationofthings.com\/100\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/flower001s.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"603\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-246\" srcset=\"https:\/\/accumulationofthings.com\/100\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/flower001s.png 800w, https:\/\/accumulationofthings.com\/100\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/flower001s-300x226.png 300w, https:\/\/accumulationofthings.com\/100\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/flower001s-768x579.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I much preferred <em>Birth Of A Flower<\/em>. This film is a series of time lapse sequences, showing flowers opening up their petals into full bloom, and it&#8217;s really quite beautiful. Of course, watching it now, these sequences aren&#8217;t anything we haven&#8217;t seen before (although they&#8217;re still beautiful staged), but I expect a hundred and ten years ago footage like this would have been a pretty wonderful novelty.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/accumulationofthings.com\/100\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/flower002s.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"444\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/accumulationofthings.com\/100\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/flower002s.png 800w, https:\/\/accumulationofthings.com\/100\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/flower002s-300x230.png 300w, https:\/\/accumulationofthings.com\/100\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/flower002s-768x588.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Although maybe not as much of a commercial success as flies carrying dumbbells.<br \/>\n__________<\/p>\n<p><strong>Notes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> <em>I watched these both on youtube &#8211; The Acrobatic Fly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8hlocZhNc0M\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>, and Birth Of A Flower <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=C5eAEXKJRmA\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> <em>That version of Birth Of A Flower is only an extract, but it&#8217;s been soundtracked by some Erik Satie music, so I preferred that version to the full version <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> <em>Which can be viewed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=HqW093bUjdg\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> <em>But which unfortunately has a fairly ugly watermark ruining it, unfortunately.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>5.<\/strong> <em>If you&#8217;d like to know more about F.
